Dementia And Hearing Loss – The Links

Today is the start of Dementia Action Week, previously known as Dementia Awareness Week.

Several studies have revealed the link between this condition and hearing loss which often happen together as we get older.

The majority of people with dementia are over 70 and nearly three-quarters of people over 70 have hearing loss.

There is strong evidence that mild hearing loss doubles the risk of developing the condition, with a moderate loss leading to three times the risk. Hearing loss can also make the symptoms of dementia appear worse.

If you are finding it harder to hear conversations or the television then make an appointment to see one of our audiologists for a free hearing check. Ring us on 0800 028 6179.
