The Tympa system uses high-definition digital otoscopy for examinations, microsuction wax removal and a hearing screening test. All this can be delivered within a single 30-minute appointment.

Better still, the Tympa system is backed up by a unique ‘remote review’ feature. This gives our practitioners the ability to send patient images and videos for expert review by ENT specialists and audiologists if required.

Any loss of hearing can have huge implications for social isolation, risk of falls and increased risk of developing dementia. Wax is also the reason 60-70% of hearing aids are sent for repair. Most GPs are no longer offering ear wax removal as a service and waiting times continue to increase, with some patients waiting up to a year to receive treatment. Hearing improvement

Many of our patients feel relief once their wax is removed, with some noticing an immediate improvement to their hearing. Once the ear is clear from wax or debris, our team may be able to conduct further hearing screening using the Tympa system, which will determine whether they have a hearing loss or whether their hearing is normal. If a hearing loss is identified our practitioners can make an onward referral to one of our audiologists to assess whether a hearing aid is needed.
