Tinnitus Week: Share Your Experience On Social Media

Tinnitus Week

Organisers of next month’s Tinnitus Week want to hear about your experience of the condition

They are hoping that this will help ensure that those with tinnitus will get the correct information from the right place at the right time for them.

Emily Broomhead, campaigns manager at the British Tinnitus Association, said: “In Tinnitus Week, which runs from February 1-7, we are campaigning to make sure that everyone with tinnitus gets the right information, from the right place, at the right time.

“Sadly, a negative start to someone’s tinnitus journey can have a serious impact on how they manage it and on their mental health. This includes being told to just learn to live with it by a medical professional, to reading incorrect and potentially harmful information online.

“This is not the case for everyone, but we want to make sure that it is not the case for anyone.

A hidden condition

“We want to share the real impact tinnitus can have on someone’s life and on those around them. If tinnitus plays a part in your life, we’d love you to get involved in our #ThisIsMySilence campaign on social media. Share a photo and your own words to explain to others how tinnitus affects you. Whether you have it, or it affects someone you know or care about, please share with us and others to raise awareness.”

Tinnitus is a hidden condition and people who don’t experience it do not truly understand the huge impact it can have on someone’s life. It affects the ability to get a peaceful night’s sleep, to concentrate, or just to enjoy silence.

“Tinnitus can – and does – have a huge impact on mental health,” said Emily. “We need your help to make more people aware of this. The more we show the real impact tinnitus has, the more likely we are to be successful in making tinnitus research funding an urgent priority.

“So, from February 1 to 7 it’s simple. You choose your photo. You choose your words. Be as honest and open as you like to explain your tinnitus – or the tinnitus of those you care about. You can tag in friends, family, celebrities – the sky’s the limit. Let’s get our voices heard this Tinnitus Week. Please be sure to tag us and include #ThisIsMySilence and #TinnitusWeek in your posts!”
