We are supporting Canterbury Music Club

We are supporting Canterbury Music Club as part of our wide-ranging backing of the arts in east Kent.
The club, which holds eight monthly concerts between September and April, has just relocated to the superb Colyer-Fergusson Hall at Kent University. This wonderful building, next to the Gulbenkian Theatre, is perfect for the type of classical music concerts which the club arranges.
A first class venue
Hearbase managing director Mark Scutchings said: “We are very happy to get involved in supporting Canterbury Music Club as it features first class performers. We try to support the arts locally and are also corporate sponsors of Canterbury Festival and Deal Music and Arts. Earlier this year we also sponsored one of the headline acts in the St Edmund’s Summer Music Festival in Canterbury.”
Canterbury Music Club started during the Second World War. One of its first concerts, featuring a pianist, was accompanied by the sound of bombs being dropped on the city.
An exciting future
Now in its 78th season, all the club’s concerts now take place at 3pm on Sundays. Club chairman and concert secretary Prof Grenville Hancox said: “We have first class performers playing for us in a world class venue and we hope our move to the Colyer-Fergusson Hall will widen our appeal. We have already had an increase in young people attending the concerts, many of them students at the university. We are also very pleased Hearbase is on board supporting us and the university has been very supportive as well. We’re really excited about the future and are looking forward to our 100th anniversary!
Next concert
Our photo shows pianist Simon Lepper and baritone James Newby who gave the club’s October concert. The next recital, on November 24, features young violinist Ionel Manciu, accompanied by pianist Kaoru Wada.
The programme features Ravel’s Sonata for Violin & Piano No. 2 in G major, Enescu’s Impressions d’enfance, Op. 28 and Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin & Piano No. 7, Op. 30.
