Joana joined Hearbase in December 2012 as a diagnostic audiologist. She is responsible for carrying out hearing aid tests, earmould impressions, hearing aid fittings and follow-up appointments. She works at our branches in Folkestone, Ashford and Canterbury.
After gaining her audiology degree in Porto, Portugal, Joana worked in some of the most important hospitals and hearing care centres in the country. She carried out diagnosis and rehabilitation, as well as adult and child hearing work, hearing tests and hearing aid fittings. She also carried out newborn hearing screening.
While still in Portugal Joana organised audiology sessions at primary and elementary schools, carried out hearing screening among all ages and arranged hearing aid workshops.
The economic crisis in Portugal, along with Joana’s desire to see another culture, meet new people and gain experience working in another country, made her decide to move here.
She says: “Working for Hearbase is very gratifying for me. Ever since I started my audiology studies I had wanted to come and work in England. The best thing about my job is seeing the smiles and happiness of my patients when they can hear again.”
When not working Joana is keen on music, sport and photography.
