Wax Removal After Care Tips – Hearbase

Here are five after care tips if you have had excess wax removed at one of our clinics.

1 Keep your ears dry for a few days as the skin of your ear canal will be a bit sensitive. Use some cotton wool with Vaseline to keep your ears dry if you shower.

2 Occasional use of olive oil (maybe every two weeks) will keep your wax soft and help natural cleaning. If you need to have your wax removed, it will make the process easier and more comfortable.

3 If you make a lot of wax, get your ears checked regularly – every six or 12 months if you are a heavy wax producer.

4 DIY wax removal can make things worse. The best advice is to keep the wax soft and hope that nature will do its work. If it doesn’t, see a professional.

5 f you wear a hearing aid, you may be pushing wax into your ear when you insert it, so increasing the wax build- up. There isn’t much you can do about this other than to keep your wax under control so that it doesn’t affect the performance of your hearing aid.

If you still feel that your hearing is poor after your wax removal you may have a hearing loss. When we cannot hear clearly, excessive earwax is often the first thing we think about. But if you have had your wax removed and you are showing any of the symptoms below, then contact us to get your hearing checked.
