Meet Zebby the cat who alerts his deaf owner to visitors and phone calls and is now in the running for a national award.

Zebby, a two-year-old black-and-white cat from Chesterfield, taps his owner Genevieve Moss’s face to alert her to put in her hearing aid.

Ms Moss said: “Without my hearing aid I can’t hear anything, but now I have Zebby to help me.”

Helpful Zebby and his owner who is deaf

Zebby is a very helpful cat and in addition to alerting his owner to phone calls, visitors and unusual noises in the night, he also picks up the post from the doormat and brings it to Ms Moss. He also brings her her slippers.

Zebby has had no training and according to a story on the BBC News website Ms Moss said Zebby was very special. “I have never known a cat like him,” she said.

Now Zebby is in line for an award run by the charity Cats Protection. He is one of 12 finalists in the National Cat Awards which are due to take place in London on July 17.
